The Problem You Can’t
Always See.

HELP YOUR DOG STAY COOLER, Safer, and more comfortable wherever life takes you

Fans Work for Humans, But Not For Dogs

Humans cool themselves primarily through sweating. As sweat evaporates from our skin, it removes heat from the body. Fans accelerate this evaporation process, which is why they make us feel cooler.

Dogs are completely different.

Dogs have very few sweat glands and rely almost entirely on panting to regulate their body temperature. As air moves rapidly across the tongue, mouth, and respiratory tract, moisture evaporates and heat is released from the body. Because dogs don’t sweat across their skin like humans do, blowing air across their fur provides very little cooling benefit. A fan may make a dog feel more comfortable, but comfort is not the same as cooling. While air may be moving around the dog, their internal body temperature can continue to rise. In high temperatures, fans often create a false sense of security. Owners see airflow and assume their dog is being cooled, when in reality the fan may simply be circulating warm air without significantly reducing heat stress.

The Dangerous Myth About Keeping Dogs Cool

When temperatures rise, many pet owners instinctively reach for a fan. After all, fans help humans feel cooler, so they should work for dogs too. Unfortunately, that’s not how canine cooling works.

For decades, pet owners have been told that providing shade, water, and a fan is enough to help dogs stay comfortable in warm weather. While these measures may provide some relief, they often fail to address how dogs actually regulate their body temperature, especially brachycephalic breeds like Pugs, French Bulldogs, English Bulldogs, Boston Terriers, and Shih Tzus.

The result is a dangerous misconception that can leave dogs vulnerable to heat stress and overheating.

Why Flat-Faced Dogs Are at Greater Risk

For brachycephalic breeds, the challenge becomes even more serious. These breeds have shortened skulls and compressed airways that can include narrowed nostrils, elongated soft palates, and restricted breathing passages. These anatomical features make it harder for them to move air efficiently through their respiratory system. This matters because panting is their primary cooling mechanism. If a dog cannot move enough air, it cannot cool itself effectively. This is why many flat-faced breeds begin showing signs of heat stress in temperatures that other dogs tolerate comfortably.

Common warning signs include:

Excessive panting

Loud or labored breathing

Lethargy

Increased anxiety or distress outdoors

Difficulty exercising

Bright red gums

Reluctance to walk

For these breeds, heat isn’t simply uncomfortable, it can quickly become dangerous.

The Problem With Traditional
Cooling Products

Most cooling products on the market focus on the outside of the dog rather than the
system dogs actually use to regulate temperature.

Fans

Fans move air, but they do not actively cool a dog’s respiratory system. Without significant sweating, there is little evaporative benefit from airflow across the fur. For brachycephalic breeds, fans do nothing to address restricted airways or compromised cooling ability.

Cooling Mats

Cooling mats can provide temporary surface relief but only cool the areas of the body in direct contact with the mat. Their effectiveness decreases over time and they offer little benefit when a dog is active.

Ice Packs and Cooling Vests

Ice packs and cooling garments can help temporarily lower surface temperatures, but they can become uncomfortable, lose effectiveness quickly, and are often impractical during walks, travel, or outdoor adventures.

Shade

Shade reduces exposure to direct sunlight but does not actively remove heat from the body. A dog can still overheat while resting in the shade on a hot day.

Introducing Brachy Breeze™

Brachy Breeze was created specifically to address the unique cooling challenges faced by flat-faced breeds.

Brachy Breeze wasn’t created in a boardroom by people who have never lived with a brachycephalic dog. It was created by owners who understand the constant concern that comes with rising temperatures. The hesitation before a walk. The worry during a family outing. The fear that a fun day outside could suddenly become an emergency.

Every feature was developed with one goal:

To help brachycephalic dogs enjoy life
more comfortably and safely.

Every year, countless dogs suffer from preventable heat-related illnesses. For brachycephalic breeds, the difference between a comfortable
outing and a dangerous situation can be surprisingly small. Fans weren’t designed for dogs. Traditional cooling methods only go so far.

Brachy Breeze was created to provide a smarter solution, one designed around how dogs actually cool themselves. Because every dog
deserves the freedom to breathe easier, stay comfortable, and enjoy more of life’s adventures.
